Daisy Movie

The plot follows Hye Young (Jeon Ji Hyun), a rather naive Korean girl who lives in Amsterdam , spending her life working in her grandfather’s antique shop and doing portraits for tourists. One day, she begins receiving flowers at exactly the same time from a secret admirer, who she believes to be a mystery man from her past who once built her a nice little bridge. One day she meets Jeong Woo (Lee Seong Jae, also in “Holiday” and “Public Enemy”), who unbeknownst to her is actually an Interpol agent tracking Asian criminals in the Netherlands .With Hye Young assuming that Jeong Woo is responsible for the flowers, the two fall very slowly into a chaste romantic relationship. However, it turns out that the man sending the flowers is actually Park Yi (Jung Woo Sung, from “Sad Movie” and “Musa”), an assassin working for a Chinese crime syndicate. Inevitably, the love triangle turns tragic and the two men end up facing off while poor Hye Young tries to work out which of the two is the love of her life.

The Grudge 2

GRUDGE –The Grudge makes a similarly convincing case for American remakes of popular Japanese horror films. Barely a year passed between the release of Takashi Shimizu’s creepy ghost story Ju-On: The Grudge and the production of this American remake, set in Tokyo and starring Sarah Michelle Gellar in her first post-Buffy horror film. About the only significant difference between the two films is the importing of a mostly-American cast (including Bill Pullman, Clea DuVall and Grace Zabriskie), but The Grudge was reconfigured (by screenwriter Stephen Susco) to allow Shimizu to refine and improve the spookiest highlights of his earlier version, which enjoyed previous incarnations as a short film and two made-for-Japanese-video features. Surprising box-office analysts with a million opening weekend, The Grudge may disappoint hard-core horror fans because it lacks gore and graphic violence, but as a creepy tale about a very haunted house, it’s guaranteed to send a few chills up your spine.

Pinoy Sunday

Pinoy Sunday, a movie about two OFWs in Taiwan and directed by Cannes winner Wi Ding Ho, has been chosen to open the 12th Cinemanila International Film Festival.

The film is jointly produced by Taiwan’s Government Information Office and NHK Japan. It’s also a product of Cannes film fest’s L’Atelier/Cinefondation workshop in 2009.

It was co-written by Ho and Indian colleague Ajay Balakrishnan. The cinematographer was Jake Pollock, an American.

It stars our very own Bayani Agbayani, Epy Quizon, Alessandra De Rossi and Meryll Soriano, considered by Ho (a Malaysian) as the heart and soul of his multinational film.

It tells the story of Manuel (Epi Quizon) and Dado (Bayani Agbayani), two Filipino OFWs in Taiwan who discover a discarded sofa one Pinoy Sunday in Taipei. This transforms their normal Sunday into a tale of adventure, perseverance and self-discovery.

Sunday is precious. In Taipei’s Little Philippines, Sunday is priceless. Its simple pleasures, perk up wilting ambition and rejuvenate flagging aspiration. The discovery of an abandoned couch, this particular Sunday, sets this story in motion. Filipino guest workers, Manuel and Dado, hoist the couch and head back to their dormitory in the industrial fringes of the Taipei hinterland. This funny road movie is driven forward by the conflict between their irrational hopes and the lurking personal demons of cold, hard rationale. Pinoy Sunday walks rural-third-world protagonists through traffic heavy, fast-paced, modern city streets and freeways; till ‘irrational hope’ and ‘the demons of cold, hard rationale’ mutate, and one is soon indistinguishable from the other.
